Nitro blue tetrazolium (NBT) is a tetrazolium salt that is reduced to an insoluble dark blue-purple formazan. Combined with BCIP it serves as a chromogenic alkaline phosphatase substrate for Western blotting, in situ hybridization and IHC, and it is also used to detect superoxide and dehydrogenase activity.
