[2-(Methacryloyloxy)ethyl]dimethyl-(3-sulfopropyl)ammonium hydroxide (sulfobetaine methacrylate, SBMA) is a zwitterionic polymerizable monomer. It is used to prepare antifouling, protein-resistant polymer coatings and hydrogels and for surface modification of biomaterials, membranes and biosensor interfaces. The monomer should be kept cool and dry to avoid premature polymerization.
