Protamine sulfate is a low-molecular-weight, arginine-rich basic protein from fish sperm that binds polyanions such as heparin and nucleic acids. It is used for in vitro heparin neutralization, to enhance retroviral and lentiviral transduction (commonly 4–10 µg/mL), and to precipitate nucleic acids from cell lysates.
