Sodium taurocholate is a bile salt formed by conjugation of cholic acid with taurine and acts as a mild ionic surfactant. It is used to solubilize lipids and membrane proteins, to prepare simulated intestinal fluids such as FaSSIF, in bile acid transport studies, and to induce spore germination of Clostridia.
