Collagenase Type I, II and IV

Ask by the lot profile and the tissue. Do not treat the type as a one-to-one match.

Collagenase from Clostridium histolyticum dissociates tissue collagen. Suppliers often associate Type I with epithelium, liver and lung, where the activities are relatively balanced. Type II is often associated with heart, thyroid, bone and cartilage, and non-collagen protease activity is often higher. Type IV usually has lower tryptic activity and is more often asked for islets and stem cells. Those are habits, not a strict map. Catch-Chem quotes Type I, II and IV separately. The activity is on the batch COA.

Activity units differ between suppliers; compare them with the COA before ordering. See tool enzymes.

Which type has higher non-collagen protease activity?

Type II is the type often noted for higher non-collagen protease activity.

Are the types interchangeable?

Do not assume that. Compare the lot profile with the tissue.
