BSA: New Zealand, Australia, standard

Origin describes the raw-material source. It is not a ranking of blocking performance.

Catch-Chem lists bovine serum albumin as New Zealand origin, Australian origin and standard grade so an inquiry can name the origin. Origin is not the same as protease-free, fatty-acid free, IgG-free or low endotoxin; write those requirements separately. BSA is purified albumin, not fetal bovine serum.

  • Origin grade: often requested when an IVD raw-material review needs a documented origin. See BSA.
  • Standard grade: routine ELISA or Western blocking. If phosphoprotein background is high, inquire casein instead.
  • Protease-free, IgG-free, low endotoxin: separate lines on the inquiry, confirmed on the batch COA.

Is New Zealand BSA better for blocking?

Origin does not prove a lower background. Test the lot, and ask for the impurity specs you need.

Is BSA the same as fetal bovine serum?

No. BSA is purified albumin; FBS is whole serum.
